A hedge is not a wall of one plant. On school and parish edges we mix species for structure: something dense at the base, something taller for songbirds, and gaps where a path already wants to go.

The test is simple. Can a caretaker cut it once or twice a year without specialist kit? If the answer is no, the design will not last.
